Hi, Keith

I have one Lale to offer you. My 4th great grandmother was a Mary Lale. I
hardly know anything about her other than she married David Chalk on 20 April
1772 at Newchurch, IOW. The Parish Register states that David Chalk was from
the Borough of ?Portsmouth, Hants. and Mary was of the parish of Newchurch.

If this helps to date Mary, I do know that David Chalk died on the IOW about
1803 and was born about 1744.

The witnesses to the marriage were a John Chalk and Mary Chalk.

I am also researching on the IOW PRAGNELL, SAUNDERS, HOBS, CHALK, TAYLOR.

This might be of interest.

I have confirmed my LEAL line back to 1658 on the Isle of Wight and find
significant indication that it might run back through the Norman occupation to
Normandy. Any assistance in establishing this would be very much appreciated.
Early versions of the name were: DE INSULA; DE L'ISLE; LISLE; LALE.
