NEWPORT BOARD SCHOOL 1876 (boys)......continued

Mon 24 Jul 1876
Re-opened the school after a holiday of 4 weeks, the boys mustered pretty
well.

Fri 4 Aug 1876
Monitor for the week Merton CASSFORD. Some boys have been away this week
at Sunday School Teas, (Primitive Methodist Weslyan).

Thu 10 Aug 1876
A treat given by the Mayor, R.PINNOCK esq. Tea in his room, games (before
and after tea) in Mr ALLEN's cricket field. Procession to and from the
field was headed by the Town Fife and Drum Band. Speeches after tea were
by Mr ORCHARD, Rev TESTRAIL, and R.PINNOCK esq. About 250 scholars were
present. Mr ORCHARD gave prizes to the most popular boys (decided by boys
own vote) went to Henry BIRCH (7/6d) and Ernest PUNCH (2/6d).

Attendance very low for this week, a few cases of sickness, but many more
of rotten boots.

Mon 16 Oct 1876
Archibald REEVE (14) came on trial for a week, with a view to the vacant
monitorship.

Tue 31 Oct 1876
Fred EDMUNDS re-appearing at school after four months absence, and very bad
attendance previous to that.

Fri 3 Nov 1876
Samuel TROTT monitor for the week. Mr WOODFORD, relieving officer, paid up
the fees for George FARLEY, at the local Board rate of quarter pence per
attendance.

Fri 15 Dec 1876
Weather still very unfavourable for school attendance. Monitor for the
