Dear Angela
It seems you are the font of all knowledge. I joined the list only a week
ago and it seems most things come back to you. The name of the person I'm
interested in is Walter (Henry) Sims Circa 1855. He was supposed to have
been born at Ventnor IOW, there is no information about his parents only his
father was a missionary. I actually believe this information to be
incorrect and I'm trying to confirm this. If he was born there what sort of
record would there be? His father could have come from there, is there a
way of confirming the surnames of families about this time.
I believe Walter to be born in Queensland Australia (no found record, but
this is not unusual) so his father would have been born and come out prior
to this.
The other thing is what sort of place is Ventnor and what would it have been
in the mid 1800's. There is a thought about him being a carpenter or sailor
or a ships carpenter (I haven't found evidence of this neither). Again this
could have been his father.
Any help with list or registers I think would be great.
Cheryl, Sydney Australia
