Hello list

I have been searching for years the birth place of my GGF, Samuel
Grover VEARY, to no avail. From his obit he was born Aug 1st 1838 and his
grandson recalls him speaking often of the IOW as though it may have been
home. Can anyone out there tie this man, or his father, to the VEARYs of the
IOW. They seemed determined that they were VEARY and not the other
variations of the name, at least in that period of time.

Family history has him: Chief ship's engineer between Liverpool and
Bombay. Sent by Queen Victoria to Gold Coast railway India to inspect
bridges. Lived at Amerie, near Surat, Bombay.

His father, Thomas Veary, was "Master of Banbury Union Workhouse" at
the time of Samuels marriage Dec. 1 1863.

Any clues most appreciated.

Regards Bob
