Hi Listers.
I have just been sorting and going through my mail and see that there have
been a few questions that seem not to have been answered, although may have
been off line I will have a go for the others.
Kathy Black on the 26th mentioned the lifeboat that is now at Duxford. This
is the "Jesse Lumb" the Bembridge boat that retired in the early sixties.
Not too sure about its history but Martin Woodward [ I think ] the present
lifeboat's coxswain has a web site at
http://isle-of-wight.uk.com/shipwrecks/index.htm. I have a picture of the
Jesse Lumb at Duxford if anyone is interested
Carole Botwright on the 30th Enquired about Wootton. Yes there is a Wootton
on the Island , about 5 or 6 mile outside Ryde on the Ryde / Newport road.
Very close to where the Portsmouth / Fishbourne car ferry service terminus
is. Its confusing as there is both a Wootton and a Fishbourne nr. Emsworth
just a short way from Portsmouth on the mainland.
Richard Riggs on the 4th Enquired after Node Hill which is the on the
Newport Cowes road, it's the rise just outside Newport just before you get
to Parkhurst. Where in Victoria's time the Army was stationed and a prison
built.
Regards .
