Dave - if your ancestors were Church of England you could pick up the
baptisms in the Isle of Wight Record Office name index which will save
you a fortune in BMD certificate fees. If you haven't already, try an
enquiry to them as they will usually do an initial brief search or
assesment for free; they then offer a paid research facility by staff
which because of the index usually means you get quite a lot for your
money compared to other places. Alternatively take a few days holiday
and visit the Island to do your own research - they also have the IW
census returns 1841 - 91 and Hants & IW wills pre 1858. They don't open
at weekends but open a late evening on the first Wednesday of the month.
They can send you information on the office and collections.
I have Parkman ancestors myself - Cowes in the 18th century - and am in
touch with someone else who has (possibly) a different family in Northwood
in the early 19th so if you can get back a bit we might link up somewhere.
Unfortunately work seldom allows me to get up to the Record Office myself
so cannot offer to do lookups.
Keep in touch
Di in the Isle of Wight

>I`m Dave Parkman and I live in SWINDON Wilts UK, I work for Royal Mail
and my interest in this subject started a short while ago when I saw some
photo`s - letters from my Grand father MR GEORGE HENRY PARKMAN, ( About
whom I know very little ) he lived at 56 Albert rd, GURNARD, COWES. He was
born on 31 - 04 -1891 and died 19 -04 -1970. My father has muddled
memories as he had a stroke last year and this made it all the more
important. I know there were brothers, and that my GRANDFATHER served in
the GLOUCESTER REGT in 1916. That just about sums it up, if anyone has any
pointers or actual knowledge it would help ,thanks
