I am researching Thomas Wavell, died in 1773, surgeon and apothecary at
Brading for 51 years. I don't find any record of his birth or first marriage,
which may have taken place in London or Surrey.
I know that if a man in that time was a minister, he probably went to
Cambridge or Oxford. Is there a similar rule for doctors? Did they usually
attend a school and, if so, where would medical school in the south of
England be located in the early 1700s?
