Someone living on IoW will hopefully be able to give a definitive
answer, but in case not..........

There's Pound Green at Freshwater as well. Trouble is that almost
every village had its pound and many farms nearby were called Pound
Farm.

I don't know IoW well enough to go know the names of all the smaller
places - but it's quite possible that a small hamlet which existed and
was known as Pound in the time of your grandfather, has been swallowed
up and known longer known by that name - You might be able to locate
the place by searching around Ryde using an old map such as is
available online at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/ - if this direct URL
doesn't work, you can get to the site through the OS website
http://www.ordsvy.gov.uk/ (click on 'Free & Fun' and follow a couple
of links to get there).

Otherwise, go to the Royal Mail website (I can't find the URL at the
moment, but it comes up using any search engine) and use the postcode
search facility. try entering something like 'Pound' 'Ryde' - or
'Pound' 'Isle of Wight' and see if you get any hits. If you get a
postcode, go to http://www.streetmap.co.uk/ and search for a location
using the postcode.

Alternatively, you might try getting the phone number of Post Offices
in the area of Ryde and give them a bell, see if they know of the
place - or if you go to BT Yellow Pages
http://search.yell.com/search/DoSearch and search on Newsagents, Ryde;
then phone them to see if they deliver papers to anywhere called Pound
near Ryde.

Try phoning the Registrar of BMD to see if the know of Pound, and
similarly try the Record Office.
