Donna,
By coincidence, my BALLARD ancestors were also found living at Pound,
Swanmore, Ryde in the 1851 census (film HO107/1663, page 32).
Swanmore is a 'suburb' of Ryde, about a mile south of the seafront, with
Swanmore Road being a continuation of the High Street. It was formed into
an ecclesiatical parish in 1864 - its church of St Michael and All Angels
opened in 1862. An early 1800's map shows a Pound Farm just to the west of
Swanmore Road - an area now occupied by schools. Interestingly, a later
map shows a Playstreet Farm in the vicinity, but the scale of the earlier
map does not allow me to confirm if this was the former Pound Farm.
Hope this helps.
