After a long search, I have finally established that what my mother told
me many years ago had some truth in it.

Her Grandfather, George Ellen, did die on the Isle of Wight, on 5 July
1891 in Sandown in fact. Having discovered this I obtained the appropriate
volume of the 1891 census index published by the Hampshire Genealogical
Society and found that George appears to have been alone, at least on
census night.

I wonder if anyone is able to do any lookups for me.

I have not yet been able to find a record of George's birth. I thought
that he was born in Wilsford in Lincolnshire but the 1891 index says
Heydon (RG12/0893 Fo124). Is this a transcription error or have I been
looking in the wrong place?

I don't know if George was a widower when he died. I would like to know if
there is any newspaper report of his funeral. His daughter Averina Jane
marries in Lincolnshire in 1905 and I am looking for any clues about where
she was before that date.

I would very much appreciate any help or advice that anyone can give me.
