As stated by Jon Baker, the United Methodist Church was not formed until
1907. The series of Bible Christian and United Methodist records at the
Isle of Wight Record Office is catalogued collectively as Bible Christian /
United Methodist, hence the confusion.
Your 1838 baptism is presumably in the register of baptisms 1837-1860 for
the Isle of Wight Bible Christian Circuit, which is held at the Isle of
Wight Record Office under reference MDR/10. The LDS has the register on
film, catalogued wrongly as United Methodist. The catalogue states that the
film is mostly illegible until about 1841.
If you check the actual entry in the register (or arrange for a look-up), it
may state the chapel at which the baptism took place and/or the place of
residence of the parents.
