FATAL FIGHT AT RYDE

Inquest 17 May at the Terminus Hotel Ventnor. The Coroner Mr E F BLAKE on the
body of Mr George OSBORNE aged 41. 6 or 7 witnesses said that the deceased
had entered the Terminus Hotel at Ryde and made remarks which offended an
Irish soldier named ANDREWS.
ANDREWS followed the soldier into the street & knocked him down with 1 blow.
He stood over him for 10 minutes threatening that he would knock him down if
he tried to get up.
He did rise & they fought for about 20 minutes.
ANDREWS was knocked down & failed to come up "on time" & had to be carried
away.
OSBORNE went to get a train to Ventnor but officials refused him to travel
on account of his dirty & drink condition. He walked home through the night
some distance of 12 miles.
The next morning he took to his bed & he died on Tuesday.
An open verdict was returned.
Take care,Linda & Tony
