Sally-Ann,

I DID post a request for recommendations before I planned my trip. I received
two suggestions; neither worked out. The problem was the timing was poor due
to a school holiday over there. I spent over 6 hours one day attempting to
make reservations on the IOW and finally gave up and reserved a room at
Southampton.

I cancelled my reservations at Southampton when a friend of mine told me
about the Calvert's Hotel from an advertisement she saw in a Traveler's
magazine from the U.K. My friend has a home over there in the Leatherhead
area. The picture of the hotel was very, very deceptive. I have taken my own
pictures for posterity.

I want to stress that I definitely do not judge the whole of the IOW based on
my accomodations at the Calver'ts Hotel. I truly love that island and plan
to make several journeys back at later times to explore my ancestors lives.
