Subject: [IoW] Marriages at Portsea of Island folk

Hello List
I have found a marriage on the IGI of Thomas WARREN and Elizabeth HEYDEN, 8
May 1784 at St Marys Portsea. I am pretty sure that this is my husband's
family. Their only child Elizabeth was baptised in Newchurch 27 July 1784.
Was it usual for a couple, especially when the bride is obviously pregnant,
to pop over to Portsea for the marriage, at that time? Was Portsea one of
those parishes that would marry anyone?
Thank you
Jackie Russell
