Hello all,
we too have marriages at Portsea,
James LOCK m. Ruth ROLF 16/4/1810 and his brother Robert Lock m. Sophia
HILLS 31/3/1818 at St Mary's Portsea, we too wondered if there was some
family connection with Portsea as there seems to be a large group of Lock's
with the same family names from this area as ours. We were told a while back
that some churches on the island although they could christen you or bury
you, were unable to marry you because they did not have a licence to marry
people, is this correct?.As for the link to being seamen, both of these were
farmers, is there a possibility that Yeomen did some form of national
service? excusing my ignorance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, kind regards
Andrea Cox
