Hi Bev and list
Was very lucky and got FTM 2005 in my stocking along with free one month sub
to Ancestry. Have looked at the entry and the 2 first names are Alfred Guy.
The last name starts Degi and then the last 2 letters have several
possibilities from le to ld and also as previously mentioned ll. I blew it
up to 150 per cent, but those last two letters of the name cross the column
line. Also I would normally have assumed Degill but when you look closer
you then come up with the other possibilities.
Regards,
Jo Fryer

Hi List,
Would anyone have images of 1881 census? Alfred George DEGILL is what shows
in the online listing, I am wondering if this is a transcription error.
He is in the 1881 census with John Henry DENHAM and family, Monkton Street,
Ryde, Isle of Wight, as visitor, born London. But he is only 3 years old
and there is no one in the household that he seems to connect to! There are
no other DEGILLs in 1881, only one in FreeBMD which is not him. Nothing
looks likely in 1901. So I suspect he may be a mishearing (DIGGLE being the
most likely, as there are hundreds of them, mostly Lancashire) or
mistranscription - but that does not explain the connection with the
household! John Henry DENHAM is a brother to my gggrandfather Henry Palmer
DENHAM
Any clues would be most appreciated!
Bev
