Subject: Alfred URRY letter to Canada from West Cowes Nov 20/1894
Date: Sat, 22 Jan 2005 22:49:50 -0500
Hi again,
One more letter that I wanted to posted to this list. It is again from Alfred William URRY born 8 Feb 1866 at Newport to parents William URRY & Ann SALTER. He is writing to his first cousin Maude Emily (nee Urry) YOUNG in Canada (daughter of Henry URRY born 16 Jun 1838 at Carisbrooke). Alfred married Blanche Elizabeth Sarah HADINGUE 22 Oct 1894. (Note that he never mentions her name in this letter) Alfred and Blanche later, about 1910, moved to Perth, Australia. (Unfortunately, I don't know how they met)
I'd be pleased to hear from any descendants of William and Alfred URRY.
Regards, Janet Bush (Ontario, Canada)

My dear cousin,
At last after so long a time I am again about to pen a few lines to you, and it is chiefly to convey the news of my marriage which took place here on the 22nd October. It is just a month since and I have already, you can guess, had a taste of married life. Well I do think we shall be very happy.
My wife is of French birth (partly), her father being a real old Frenchman to the backbone, while her mother is an Englishwoman. We met 2 years since, and in not a little remarkable way, which I may some day explain more fully.
She is a 1st cousin to Madame Hading of Paris, the celebrated French actress of which you may have heard. We unite in mutual love to yourself and dear mother, and are sending per post a box of our wedding cake, just a taste. The card is enclosed with this letter which we hope you will receive all safe.
You are the only one across the Atlantic that will receive either cake or card so you see how favoured you are. I do not know of the address of any of my other cousins, and I have never corresponded with them.
Now may I ask dear cousin that you may at your convenience favour us with a few lines, letting us know how you are faring in the far west. I will let you have in due time a photo of my wife, of course I think she is a real gem and more, which is of immense importance to me. She is the Lord's through Grace and I think I may add without presumption. The Lord's choice for me. He that getteth a wife, all are non wifes, getteth a good thing & shall obtain favour of the Lord. Do you know where the above is quoted from?
We are having a quiet and mild winter here at Cowes. I shall retain my business at Newport where mother and the girls are living, and go to and fro every day by rail, only 5 miles. I have opened a business here, a branch one, which helps the old one considerably. Please excuse scribble but accept our hearty Christian love.
Your loving cousin, Alfred Urry
