Hello Deb,
I'm afraid I can't be of much help regarding the Newnhams - they were
rather numerous I believe. All I can tell you is that in my family
John Perress married Elizabeth Newnham in Newport as far as I know (I
have no date for the marriage.) They had 4 children that I know of -
John(1801), Sarah(1806), Catherine Newnham (1808) & Martha(1811). This
is an interesting family because I have a letter written by Martha to
her sister Catherine from Hyderabad in 1840, where she appears to have
been involved in some sort of missionary expedition with her sister &
brother-in-law. It is probably of no interest to you but I am very
keen to know anything about any missionary society which might have
been active in India in the 1840s.
I don't know how much you know about the Island but I remember there
was a road in Binstead called Newham Rd which I always presumed led to
a Newham Farm once upon a time if not now, but we always pronounced it
"Ninem"!
I hope this may be of some help.
Best regards ............ Ros.
