Hello listers
I have been researching my YELF ancestors for some time now and many people have told me about the Yelf Hotel and the Yelf Printers on the Isle of Wight.
In 2000 I contacted a lady on the IOW and she sent me a tree showing my side of the YELF family,It started with Robert YELF and Sophia CARD, she went on to say that the YELFS with the brewery buisness was a different line.
and that she could not find any YELFs earlier than 1700.
It seems to me though that there must be a connection somewhere as the name is not a common one.
My tree goes back to Robert YELF of Spicers Farm born in 1696 died 1766.married to Elizabeth BOOKER in 1728.their son James YELF b; 1733 who m;Ann MIDLANE is the next generation and then their son Robert YELF b;1772 m;to Sophia CARD and on to William YELF b;1805 married to Elizabeth ARMSTRONG in 1829.
According to yet another family tree sent to me by another YELF ancestor, Robert YELF b;1761 of YELFS Hotel was James YELFs nephew, the son of his brother John YELF b;1731.
William YELF the printer b;1774 was also a nephew the son of another brother also named William YELF but no date of birth is shown for him just his marriage in 1773 to Mary Ashwood.
Wonder if their is anyway of authenticating this last tree,it was put together in 1980??
Is their a group that researches "trees" or keeps copies of them?
