Hello everyone,

My name is Alison BAKER and I'm from Melbourne, Australia. My mother is
also interested in genealogy and is the Secretary of our local family
history society. She has researched my family very thoroughly so when I
started to show an interest, my husband's family was the obvious choice.
I'm hoping my son will one day appreciate all my efforts in tracing his
paternal heritage!

My husband was born in Newmarket, Suffolk and emigrated to Australia when he
was 8 years old. Most of the family seem to be born in Suffolk, London,
Surrey or Sussex.

My interest in the Isle of Wight is with the ATTRILL family. Alice ATTRILL
(my husband's Great Great Grandmother), was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire in
1865. She married Charles George WITHERS in 1882 at the Holy Trinity
Church, Portsea. Alice was one of 8 children born to John ATTRILL and
Elizabeth ? John ATTRILL was born about 1828 in Bonchurch on the Isle of
Wight. His wife Elizabeth (surname unknown) was born about 1831 in Newport,
IOW. I found them on the 1861 census, living at 1 Wilty Place, Portsea.
John and Elizabeth were married in about 1850 in Portsea Island. John's
occupation on the 1861 census was "fireman".

John and Elizabeth's children were:

Ellen or Helen ATTRILL b: abt 1854
Elizabeth ATTRILL b: abt 1855
Eliza ATTRILL b: abt 1857
Thomas H ATTRILL b: abt 1859
Kate ATTRILL b: abt 1861
Alice ATTRILL b: abt 1865
Frederick ATTRILL b: abt 1869
Martha Louise ATTRILL b: abt 1872

I would love to hear from anyone who has an interest in this family or who
can help me trace them further back.

Cheers,
Alison Baker
