I can't be much help, but the IGI record which I think you refer to is a
patron submission and not a parish register extraction, therefore I would
treat it with utmost caution. It looks like the family were based in
Newchurch parish, so a search of the parish register might help (or the card
index at Newport RO). Your best bet may be to try to find the family in the
1841 or 1851 census and see if the earlier (pre-1837) children are still
living with William and Elizabeth (it looks like they were alive into the
1840s at least according to the IWFHS BMD database). I tried the 1861 but
could not locate the family easily, I don't have access to the earlier
ones). Don't forget also that the IWFHS BMD only provides "Other surname",
it does not guarantee that this is the Mothers Maiden Surname, though in the
majority of cases I would expect this to be the case.
