Fred:
Thanks for the encouragement! I will give it a try...
Yesterday, i typed my letters and i was preparing to send them in the next couple days...
I spent the better part of the day looking for OKLAHOMA postcards to include in my letters, hoping the small gifts of OK postcards would be taken kindly for their trouble of looking up my family records....and I bought International postage stamps today.
I will give e-mail a try first and see if I get a response....I will let you and the LIST know!
I pass THIS info along to the list... A 'person with the same name' in Castelvetrano and I are still writing each other about once a week...this has been going on for a month. I used the IT yellow pages, and put in VIVONA in the search and where it says DOVE(where) I put in Castelvetrano...I got a few business' that were owned by VIVONAs. I wrote a short note, saying I was looking for VIVONA family, to a VIVONA business that had a web site e-mail lited in it's address. "Francesco" writes me in Italian and I now use the Freetranslation website to read his letters. Then i reply to his letters and again use the translator, sending both the IT translation and my English version. We both seem to know to keep our letters short and so far we both get the gist of what we both are saying. We have gotton to telling each other about each of our immediate famlies!
The 2nd or 3rd letter he sent he told me that he had taken my first letter with my ancestors name and dates ...to his town clerk. That was 3 weeks ago. Today he writes that he has the marriage certificate to send me and that the clerk is now sending my family names to Partanna, the other town of my ancestors...and that he will send this all to me when he gets it!
My point, when we all are wondering how long it takes once we send our letters to a town clerk...I think it is safe to say, our requests are not answered right away. I am sure they all have town business to take care of and my letters of ancestors names are low priority, which I understand.
The VIVONAs and I did not find any common ancestors, but i think we both view each other and our famlies as COUSINS anyway. It has been a very rewarding experience so far.!
I "THANK all of you " that continue to post web sites that are helpful! I try every one of them!
Ciao-Ciao!
Deb V.

Debbie:
Today is the day of miracles. E-mail is in. Do it and let all
the listers know how you did. Two months ago we were not
sure of E-mail. Now the whole system is changing. The Church
list is getting bigger all the time. Two months from now they may
all have E-mails.
All I can say Deb is, GO GETUM!
