Hi,
If she married a person who was already was a citizen in 1919, then there is
a very small chance that she would naturalized on her own name.
The reason is before women were allowed to vote there was really wasn't a
reason to become naturatlized.
I ran into a similiar situation in my husband's family. I had searched for
naturalization papers and finally ran into a family letter that stated:
"and your mother became a citizen when she married me."

Thanks. However, since she came over at age 18 and single, wouldn't she
then have papers? She wasn't married until 1919.

Hi,
All naturalizations after 1906 can be found at the National Archives. But
there is an issue with women's naturalizations.
Up until 1922, women automatically became naturalized when they married an
American citizen, when their husbands became a naturalized citizen, or if
they were still a minor when their father became a citizen. Therefore, it
is possible that you will not find naturalization papers for your
grandmother even though you may find that she voted after 1922.
But check with the national archives to be sure there is nothing there
first.

Does anyone out there know where in the world I can get copies of my great
grandmothers naturalization papers? Big problem...I can't seem to find out
which port she came in from Italy to in 1911. Would the National Archives
have such records or would I have to contact some other agency? thanks.
