A suggestion is to look for the surname and different variations (Like Grovioto / Graviotto / etc.) once the surname could be mispelled when immigrants arrived in America. Take a look at the following site that represents how surnames are distributed in italy nowadays:

www.gens.labo.net

It will shoe you where the surname is present in Italy and that`s a clue to start searching there.
