Hi Tom,

Sorry should have been clearer - by unknown I meant that there was no
documentation in New Zealand as to the names of his parents, neither his
marriage (not a required field in 1879) nor death (field left blank)
certificates give any indication of who his parents were or where in Italy
he came from.

I had a stroke of luck with the birth of his son Henry which gave his birth
place as Genova (Which I understand is Genoa) so at least I have a rough
area in which to start looking, All documentation here in New Zealand;
consistently fit with the birth year of 1855.

I have found no immigration records for him and he died before he could
start the naturalization process. Has been a long 8 year search for him, but
more and more pieces are falling into place.

Hello,

It is important to state what you mean by "unknown". In Italy during those
times trovatelli (foundlings) and those infants taken away from unwed
mothers would be denied knowledge of who their parents were with zero paper
trail. Read "Sacrificed for Honor" for more information.

By unknown do you mean; omitted from civil or baptismal records, or no
reference in your oral or written family history? These are two very
different scenarios, both very common.

Hi All,



Looking for any information on Andrea Luigi MINOLA born abt 1855 in Genoa.
(Parents unknown)



Andrea immigrated to New Zealand abt 1874 (I have been unable to find any
immigration records)



In 1879 he married Mary BOND, they had four children, Henry, Lavinia,
Angelina Roza & Herminia Giovanna.



Andrea died in 1885 aged 30 of an Aneurism of the Aorta.



Unfortunately this is all the information I currently have on him, he has
been quite elusive so far. Anyone got any idea's as to how I got about
finding out more?
