Hi everyone,

I have just joined the list and this is my first posting.

I am trying to find my grandfather William Joseph BALL. I know he was born
in Ireland but I don't know where.

He was married to my grandmother Elizabeth HITCHMOUGH in Liverpool on
19/3/1915 (he was a widower at the time) & he was 39. He was an electrical
engineer on ships. He died on 24/6/1924 aged 48. From this I have assumed
he was born in 1876. My mum thought he was born in Dublin and I sent to the
General Register Office in Dublin for a birth cert. They checked 1875-1877
& couldn't find him. All I know is that his father's name was William BALL
(a mechanical engineer who was dead by 1915), i don't know his mother's name.

I have William Joseph's marriage & death certificates as these events
occurred in England.

I have a few questions:

1) Does anyone know how I could find his birth and first marriage records
from Ireland. Are there any indexes for Ireland that I could access
without knowing a specific town/county to find this information???

2) Would he have had to do anything specific to move from Ireland to
Liverpool? i.e. fill in forms etc that may be available somewhere.

Any suggestions gratefully received.
