ANTHONY BLAKE, ESQ.
It is with feelings of unfeigned regret we have this day the very
painful duty of recording the lamented death of the above most excellent and
respected gentleman, which melancholy event took place a few days since at
his residence St. Orans, near this town. Mr. Blake endured a protracted
illness with the fortitude and resignation of a christian, and with that
composed meekness and humility, which characterized every act of his long
and useful life.- His death is a source of deep affliction to his
affectionate and disconsolate family, by whom his memory, his virtue, and
his many amiable qualities will be long cherished and revered, beloved and
endeared as he was not alone to them, but to the numerous circle of friends
who enjoyed his society in a manner rarely to be surpassed, and every act of
his was influenced by the highest feelings of honor and integrity, and he
has left after him a character unsullied by a single stain.-In the social
circle, he was cheerful, affable and interesting, diffusing delight and
pleasure to all those around him, and as a husband he was fond and
affectionate, as a parent, tender and kind and indulgent, as a master he was
humane and considerate to his domestics. To detail the many good and
excellent qualities of departed worth would be impossible, and would far
exceed the ordinary limits prescribed for such occasions: suffice it to say
that he died as he lived, a pious and exemplary christian, beloved and
regretted by his numerous and respectable friends, and deplored by the poor
to whom he was a generous benefactor. His remains were deposited in the \
new cemetery at Bushy Park, and were accompanied to the grave by a vast
concourse of friends and relatives.
