Subject: [IGW] SHINE miscellany - LAWLOR/LALOR, etc. -- Rootsweb Message Boards & IreAtlas websites

SNIPPET: Lister who sent an interesting and informative SHINE post to this list mentioned a mysterious location -- "Islandearhig." At the IreAtlas website, I found several townlands that ended in "hig" but nothing that really rang a bell. (Note - at IreAtlas, you can do a townland search using the name of a townland, or by a letter group setting the search to either "begins with," "includes" or "ends with." I did find an "Island" CP with a Caherlarhig townland, PLU Clonakilty, in Cork - but something closer, perhaps, that being a townland of Islandearagh (425 acres) in Co. Kerry, CP Nohavaldaly, PLU Killarney.

For the other SHINE lister -- There are quite a few SHINE queries/posts at the Rootsweb Message Boards website including info re the former editor of the "Detroit Free Press," Neal SHINE, his mother a CONLON from Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim. There is also a birth entry for a Thomas MAXWELL, born 1865 in Drumahaire, Co. Leitrim, to a William MAXWELL and a Margaret SHINE. Also data on a Laurence FALLON born 1865 to Marks FALLON and Bridget SHINE, Athlone, Co. Roscommon. (Two researchers replied to the latter post. Check and see, but as I recall one was looking for a Bridget SHINE and the other a Margaret SHINE, and at least one of those two researchers also had ties to MA). Lister searching KINSELLA/SHINE might want to post a query to RMB website. There are surname boards as well as location boards there.

A land survey of those who owned an acre or more was completed in Ireland in 1876. Data pertaining to SHINE includes:

1. D. Shine *LALOR, address Greenagh, Killarney, owned 940 acres in Co. Cork valued at 265 pounds 15 shillings.
2. Denis SHINE, address Dromroe, owned 1+ acres in Co. Cork valued at only 15 shillings.
3. John L. SHINE (Reps. of ), address not given, owned 328+ acres in Co. Cork valued at 174 pounds 15 shillings.
4. Roger H. SHINE, address Canon's Park, Cashel, owned 362+ acres in Co. Tipperary valued at 296 pounds.
5. Margaret SHINE, address Seville Lodge, Kilkenny, owned 228+ acres in Co. Kilkenny valued at 281 pounds.
6 . Dennis Shine *LAWLOR, address Grenagh, Killarney, owned 1,374+ acres in Co. Kerry valued at 607 pounds 10 shillings.
7. Jeremiah SHINE, address Ballymacreese, Co. Limerick, owned 79+ acres in
Co. Limerick valued at 86 pounds.
8. Roger SHINE, address Camas Park, Cashell, owned 123+ acres in Co. Limerick valued at 92 pounds.
9. Jeremiah SHINE, address Ballymacreese, Limerick, owned 669+ acres in Co. Clare valued at 340 pounds.

There is a Kilshine Civil Parish in Co. Meath, PLU Navan - wonder if it has anything to do with the SHINE surname?.
