I have a small Dovey group. One Emma Mills DOVEY 1873 North Ayelsford Kent, died  Thanet 1952 married my Albert FOAD.
Interestingly, she ran off with a man by the name of BROWN!

Mine were usually spelled BINNIE and appear to have come from Scotland too.
You're right though - it's not a very common name. Of course I also have
DOVEY - another unusual name.

I confess its not a name I have come across aprt from Constable William
Binney.
A quick look at the BMD shows just one entry in Thanet for Binney.
