Howdy All,
I recently came across the following, and feel that it is an excellent idea.
Being that this is a list for genealogy, I felt that everyone here would
have an appreciation for what is suggested, and understand its importance.
If you really support this idea, please pass it along.

Southerner 2000, A Census Project:

The law of the land demands that a census be taken every ten years. The next
census will be taken in the year 2000 and provides a prime opportunity to
clearly state who we are as SOUTHERNERS. Southerner 2000 has established
the goal of getting as many Southerners as possible to declare their
Southern heritage on the United States Census for the year 2000. There is a
section on the census forms which asks for information on your ethnic
background. We need to not put down what country we think our ancestors
came from to America, but honor our ancestors that carved out a nation here.
If you believe in the ideas of self-determination, limited government and
believe that the men and women of the Confederacy were right in defending
these values as well as values such as honor, integrity and morality, then
write in your ethnic background as being SOUTHERNER.

Our Southern heritage is something to be proud of. Rather than hide from
it, we embrace it and encourage ALL Southerners to revel in the good, which
significantly out weighs any lapses that have been a part of the Southern
culture. While recognizing that like any society the South has its flaws,
we strongly believe that the Southern people, as a whole, have provided the
world with some of the finest examples of manhood and womanhood to be found
anywhere. The abilities of Southerners to overcome hardships and maintain a
truly civilized and friendly society make us a shining example of what can
be.

The census forms come out in early March 2000 so we have several months to
promote this effort. Working together we can spread the word and have a
considerable percentage of Southerners declare there heritage on the 2000
census. Visit our website at www.southerner2000.org. If you wish to help
this cause, pass the word along. Also consider contributing to this cause
financially. If you are so inclined, mail your contributions to:
