Subject: [JAMES-L] HELP!
Date: 8 Sep 1998 08:35:12 EDT
Dear Cousins,
I never thought I would ever be put in the situation that
some on the List have been in, but It has happened. When I was having
the computer whoas, may data was accessible, retrieveable, and saveable.
Last night though the worse kind of night mare occurred. Around
midnight, I had just retrieve about 35 email messages, had read one and
had written a response. Sitting in my out box, were seven other
messages to be sent. Well, when I connected to my ISP server to send
the email, the server decided it was time to upgrade my software. It has
upgraded before without any adverse effects, but not lasst night. The
program deleted (erased, obliterated) over 5,000 saved email messages
containing all of the genealogy data I have received through the mailing
lists and personal contacts during the past 6-1/2 months. And it also
deleted my address books containing 267 adresses.
I need your help! Anyone and everyone that I have been in
contact with during the past several months that I have shared my data
with, you have share your data with me, and we have worked together to
fill a gap, will you please send me the data? The most of the email
mailing individual and Digest postings I can retrieve from the Rootsweb
Archives, but the personal messages are not that easy.
I have used to email program through my ISP server as a more
convenient tmethod, as I don't have to be on the Internet to use it.
But now, I am going to switch and use either the email programs in my
browsers or install the Juno program and use it. This has been one very
costlya and expensive lesson to learn about the reliable services of the
Free Local Email Service and Servers.
God Bless you all and have a very nice day,
Don Stanton
