------------------------------------------- below newspaper account of birth
day of Nathaniels sister-in-law--------
Taken from the The Albany Ledger, newspaper, albany, gentry co. Mo. dated
Friday, March 20, 1908
As follows:
PASSES 95TH MILESTONE OF LIFE- march 1908----not an obit
As far as it is known, Gentry countys' oldest citizen is Mrs. W.R. JAMES who
lives nine miles west of Albany. On thursday of last week, March 12th, she
passed the 95th milestone of life and from appearances may live to celeberate
others.
This worthy old lady has been blessed with dutiful children and is now
spending her declining days with her son, R.B. JAMES in Huggins Township. She
has lived to see her descendants increase unto the fourth generation and her
children and grand children surely "rise and call her blessed".
Grandmother JAMES was born in Cannon Co. Tennessee, March 12, 1813. She was
married to W.R. JAMES on February 13, 1834. They came to MO. in 1848 and
settled in Gentry co. She was the mother of eleven children, six of whom are
still living. They are R.B. JAMES of Stanberry, MO.: Mrs. Strange of St.
Joseph, MO. : Mrs Brown of Kingfisher, Okla. Mrs. White and JOAB of Joliet,
Montana and W.R. JAMES of Worth County. She has 45 grandchildren., 101 great
grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren living.
Mr. JAMES died May 20, 1900 and since then Mrs. JAMES has made her home with
her eldest son.
Although, Mrs. JAMES does not take much interest in happenings of today or of
late years, she remembers very distinctly events happening 80 or 85 years
back. She loves to talk of olden times when she was young, and thinks people
in those days enjoyed themselves more than they do today. She has been a
cripple for 34 years, having been thrown from a horse and dislocated her hip.
Otherwise she enjoys good health. She wears no glasses and can see fairly
well. She has smoked for almost 50 years and wears a bonnet all the time. She
has never been on a train in her life and was never more than 12 miles from
home until after her marriage, when she came to Gentry co. from Tennessee.
They came with wagons pulled by Oxen teams in April of 1843, and arrived in
Gentry co. in June. She has now lived in this county for 63 years.
She was converted and joined the Baptist Church when 18 years old, but
afterward united with the Christian Church. May she live many years more is
the wish of her family and many friends.
