Hi
I am still trying hard to confirm people in my paternal tree.
GGGGrandfather William Jaques was born on April 13th1814
(dates from a family bible owned by his son Thomas). There is no record of William on IGI, he married in coventry nov 29th 1838 - (mispelt surnames as JAKES) Ann Mockford born Aug 25th 1817, William and Ann are shown on the 1841 census living with Williams parents Thomas and Mary Jacques (aged 65 and 60) Therefore making Thomas born approx 1777 and Mary in 1781.
Does anyone have a Thomas and Mary in this era? In the Warwickshire/Leicestershire area. As I can find no record of Williams birth other than the prayer book I cannot confirm that I have a link, there are many Thomas and Marys but all seem to have registered their children, but not my William.
William was a friend of GEORGE ELIOT the famous Novelist whos real name was MARY ANN EVANS, I understand William had sisters who married into families who moved to the states, who visited William in his later life, the American Relatives also as late as the 2ND WORLD WAR sent clothing to the children of the JAQUES family in the Nuneaton Area, in particular a girl called Virginia, who remembered recieving fur boots from America at Christmas during the war, which she felt very proud and privalaged to have during rationing time, we would dearly like to find our American Relatives, and follow the family tree over the pond.
I have enclosed some articles which have the names of the family, and I hope to find some more living relatives in the UK too.
If you have any information to help, however small, please do get in touch, my family have been working for 20 years and are still no closer than we were before the internet was invented! prehaps I am missing something simple, so any advice or tips will be welcome too!
Many Thanks in advance to all you eager Jaques researchers!
Love Clara O'Donnell (Nee Jaques)
