Jesse Jay and Rachel Charles married June 26, 1827, Hall County, Georgia.
During the 1830 census of Georgia, the couple still lived in Hall County,
where he received land in the 1827 Land Lottery of Georgia, but had moved to
Forsyth County by 1840, as had Jesse's father, John. By 1850, the family
was living in Walker County, Georgia, where they remained and reared a large
family.

The father of Jesse, was John Jay, born January 19, 1784, probably in
Newberry County, South Carolina, son of Rev. David Jay, Sr. (born May 28,
1765, Orange County, North Carolina), and Elizabeth Earp (born 1781),
daughter of Daniel and Jane (Wiley) Earp. The Rev. David Jay, Sr. was a
Methodist minister in Tennessee and Georgia, and died February 11, 1839,
Lumpkin County, Georgia. His widow, Elizabeth, died between 1845-1850,
reportedly in Lumpkin County, Georgia.

The mother of Jesse Jay was Rachel "Sis" Harris born 1786. She and John Jay
probably married in Buncombe County, North Carolina, ca. 1807. Their
children were: Jesse, William, Sarah, Rebecca, Rhoda, John Jr., Isaac M.,
Rev. Thomas P., A.C., and Rachel.

Jesse Jay first married Ann Yarborough, August 10, 1824, in Hall County,
Georgia. They are believed to have had a son, Thomas, who was born ca.
1825, Hall County, who married Mary S. (last name unknown), and died in
Forsyth County, Georgia. It is thought they also had a daughter, who might
have been a twin to Thomas.

Jesse Jay was born March 14, 1808, probably in Buncombe County, North
Carolina, and died 1877, Walker County, where his estate was administered by
son, John C. Jay. Rachel (Charles) Jay was born October 15, 1812, in
Tennessee. Jesse and Rachel were parents of the following children:
Jemima Jay, born August 7, 1830.
James Jay, born February 2, 1833, died May 4, 1900; married Mary Pleasant
Culbertson, September 8, 1856.
William Jay, born March 26, 1836, probably married Emily A. (last name
unknown), 1858, Hall County, Georgia.
Reuben Jay, born January 2, 1837, died August 10, 1922, Victoria, Texas.
Married Martha J. Simmons, daughter of Alexander A. and Ellen Simmons.
John C. Jay, born December 2, 1838, married Celia _.
Richard Charles Jay, born April 4, 1840.
Temperance Jay, born April 7, 1842.
Jasper Jay, born October 9, 1844, probably in Forsyth County, Georgia. He
married Mary Susan Simmons, daughter of Alexander A. and Ellen Simmons; and
married, second, Nancy Elizabeth Turner, daughter of Wade H. and Sarah Ann
(Jay) Turner.
Rufus N. Jay, born October 20, 1847.
Mauda Maria Jay, born August 5, 1850, Married __ Chastain.
David Jay, born ca. 1853, Ellis Jay, born ca. 1859, Adaline Jay, born ca.
1861.
William H. Jay, born 1863, died May 3, 1950. He married Edna Peters, born
June 26, 1870. She died October 31, 1924, and both are buried in Anderson
Cemetery, Ringgold, Catoosa County, Georgia.
