I have found in Deer Creek, Gunpowder Monthly Meetings, Quaker Records of
Northern Maryland references to Sophia, Hannah, Elizabeth Jay, from Harford
Co, Maryland in the late 1700, mostly 1770 to 1795.

This may help in establishing the fact the the Jay were Quakers when William
married Mary Vestal, but maybe not in good standing as Elizabeth was caught
at a wedding where dancing was going on and Joseph Jay was caught up in a
Lottery. Seems like the Jay were a little to much fun loving for the
Quakers.

Deer Creek Meeting

Stephen Norton, m. Sophia Jay both of Harford Co., on 11 day of 4th month
usually called Apr 1776, at Deer Creek. Included in witness was a Stephen
Jay, Hannah Jay, (name appears twice), Elizabeth Jay.
