Subject: Joseph A. Jenkins obit notice
Date: Mon, 20 Jan 1997 11:17:58 -0500

The following is the obituary of my Great-grandfather Jenkins, copied from
the HOLTON RECORDER of Holton, KS. Included with this clipping are the
photographs of a young man and young woman. I am not sure who they are. If
anyone "connects" with this and would like a (photo)copy of the
pictures/obit, please e-mail me. I am hoping someone can identify the young
man and woman.

"Joseph A. Jenkins, son of Eleazor and Eliza Jenkins, was born in Lebanon, PA
July 21, 1861. In 1875 he came to Missouri to Kansas with the Steve Elllis
family and established his home near Havensville.

"He was united in marriage January 18, 1887, at Seneca, to Mary Margaret
Mosing. To them were born six children: A daughter, Anna Catherine, died in
infancy; the others are Lulu Beatrice, now Mrs. Quincy Turner, of Seneca;
Flora Elnora, now Mrs. Wm. Olds, of Holton; William Henry and John Albert of
Holton; Anna, now Mrs. J.M. Barnes, of Holton. After marriage they lived in
Nebraska and Colorado, finally at Havensville until 1926, when they moved to
the Mayetta neighborhood. After the death of his wife in 1933, he made his
home among his children.

"After a few weeks' illness he passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs.
Wm. Olds, on January 25, 1944, ending a pilgrimage of 82 years, 6 months, and
4 days.

"He was a good, loving father, a kind neighbor, a helpful citizen, and member
of the Christian church for many years.

"He is survived by his children; 21 grandchildren, two of whom are now
serving in the army of the United State, seven great-grandchildren; and
several nephews and nieces, to bless his memory.

"Funeral services were held at the Gabel and McAsey Funeral Parlors on Friday
afternoon by M.G. Hamm, with burial in the Holton cemetery."
