>From letter written by Clement's daughter Letitia, dated Dec 14, 1971 (she
was 93 yrs. old at the time):

"I wish everybody would stop asking me about our "genealogy". You know if
you go very far back you are apt to dig out a skeleton out of the closet.
Martha said all she ever heard of the Jenkins' ancestors was that one of
them was a horse thief, which of course, was just a joke. But I can give my
father's and mother's and some of my grandparents names - not all.
Grandfather Jenkins was a Baptist preacher named Billy. I don't know my
grandmother's name nor where she came from. My father's name was Clement
Clifton. Mother's name was Louisa Lynn. Her mother was Scott-Irish. Thats
where we got our big blue eyes. Her father's name was John Lynn. I always
thought he was English and that's all and more than I know. Grandfather
Jenkins had 9 boys and 4 girls in family. I never was only mother's mother.
She was blind. She smoked a little clay pipe and I had to light it for her
with a coal from the fireplace. I was about 4 years old or 5 when we left
Kentucky. They are all gone to their rest - waiting for the trumpet to sound."

to be con't. Carol
