Hi cousins,
As some of you know my health is pretty lousy these days and I appreciate
all the kind
and caring words that you have all sent to me. It occured to me a few
minutes ago, that I wrote down some Jenkins information 2 years ago from
our ancient library here
in Portsmouth when I first began searching for my ancestors. I did not
know how these people connected to me, and of course I still don't know,
because I haven't connected all the dots of my Jenkins yet... I haven't
figured things out yet, even after 2 years of getting no where!>smile<
But Portsmouth Library has a book down there
called "The Emmerson Papers".. Portsmouth used to have a newspaper
called,
The Emmerson, and a very generous woman took the articles from that
newspaper
and put them into book form with an index. I didn't have time to look up
the articles when I was down there, but I did write down all that I found
on all the Jenkins mentined in that book and I just thought that maybe
someone might benefit from what I wrote down. If any of these names and
dates sound familiar to you... or ring any bells.. let me know how. The
dates that are beside the names, are the dates that
the article was "written" NOT the birth year of the individual:

Miles Jenkins, private in Co C 14th VA inf.

Portsmouth, VA) married Eunice B. Wortham of Richmond.
Folks I do not know what is written about any of these Jenkins folks, but
if any of it
looks like it might help someone, please let me know. I am not able to
get down to
the library, but the man who runs the Local History Room down there is
named Bill
Baker and he is very kind and helpful. I'm sure if you wrote to him and
asked him
to copy the information for you he would do it. Portsmouth library does
not have an
email. There is also an index card file down there with plenty of cards
on file on:
John of Nansemond and Captain Henry Jenkins. I wish I had had sense
enough
to search it all out when I was down there a few years ago, but I
didn't..now I sure
wish I had! Sure hope this helps someone, take care folks and happy
holidays,
Susan in VA (ps Norfolk county, VA was one of the first areas in VA..goes
back to
1600's and information in our little ancient library includes the early
Jenkins in our
lines that came in through VA)
