Hello cuzzins,
I've decided to post my own interpretation of the Jenkins line to this
list for those who are interested. It's not anything that is carved in
stone, it's just the way I see it, so here goes:
"JUDGE DAVID JENKINS" POSSIBLY HAD:
1)JOHN OF WARWICK SQUARE was born about 1600 (he was buying land at age
24, at least that is what I've read). I have "not" read that he was
called "John
of Warwick Square", but "I" am giving him this title. There was a John
Jenkins living in Warwick Square 16 Feb 1624, listed as one of the 33
individuals living there. I do NOT believe that he and Governor John are
one and the same man. Because Warwick Square was in the location of what
was once very close to the same spot as what later became Elizabeth City
County, I believe that he is the father of both the Elizabeth City
Jenkins group and also the Governor John Jenkins group of (what became)
NC. I believe he is the father of at least these 3 men and probably
others:
A. Captain Henry Jenkins, Sr. of Elizabeth City, VA born about 1620 and
his line.
B. Governor John Jenkins of NC, born about 1630; married 1653 Johanna;
daughter Johanna born 1659; he died 1681. (Since I have been told, on
good authority, that the Welch name for John is "Evan" and Sir Leoline
had a brother
named "Evan", it's safe to assume at this point that possibly the brother
to this
man is Sir Leoline Jenkins).
C. Sir Leoline Jenkins
D. Many Others in between
~~
Of course there is no proof, and I could be wrong, but this is the way
that I'm typing my Jenkins into Family Tree Maker. I thought if others
would like to type theirs in the same way, that I'd share my take on
things with the list. I hope this helps. Take care, Susan of Tidewater VA
