I have a bit of a dilemma.

I have been looking for someone whom I've been told was a Jenkins, but may
possibly be a Baker.

On my wife's ancestry, her Great-greatgrandfather was George T. Wood. His
wife, according to "other" family members, was Susannah Jenkins. No
documentation other than verbal family history for this.

I have been searching for her parents in D.C. and Maryland with no luck to
confirm her maiden name.

Then I finally find George and Susan in the 1900 Census:
1900 Northeast Washington D.C.
307 12th Street, NE
178/192
George T. Wood, head, white, male, Oct 1858, 41, married 22 yrs, b WDC,
father b Md, mother b Md, Janitor
Susanna, wife, white, female, Aug 1859, 40, married 22 yrs, 7 children, 6
living, b Md, father b Md, mother b Md
William L., son, white, male, Jun 1878, 21, married 1 yr, b WDC, father b
WDC, mother b WDC, Clerk Grocery
Charles H., son, white, male, Jan 1884, 16, single, b WDC, father b WDC,
mother b WDC
Blanche E., son, white, male, Aug 1888, 11, single, b WDC, father b WDC,
mother b WDC, At school
Mary A., son, white, male, Jan 1892, 8, single, b WDC, father b WDC, mother
b WDC
George T., son, white, male, Jun 1894, 5, single, b WDC, father b WDC,
mother b WDC
William H. Baker, brother, white, male, Feb 1858, 42, married 20 yrs, b Md,
father b Md, mother b Md, Printer Gov't

William H. Baker is listed as a brother to George Wood, but first, why the
difference in surname, if he is brother to George Wood. Could he actually
be a brother-in-law? Then that would make Susannah's surname Baker,
correct?

I have Susannah (and George) and William and George's father "L.A." in the
1880 Census:
1880 Washington D.C.
112/117
901 E Street, S.E.
L. A. Wood, head, male, white, 52, widow, b Md, father b Md, mother b Md,
Grocer Store
Kate L. Rubert, other, female, white, 18, b DC, father b Md, mother b MD,
servant
Annie Mosher, other, female, white, 18, b DC, father b Va, mother b Va,
servant
Harry, son, male, white, 16, single, b DC, father b Md, mother b DC, at home
Albert, son, male, white, 13, single, b DC, father b Md, mother b Md, at
school
Arther, son, male, white, 6, single, b DC, father b Md, mother b Md 113/118
903 E Street, S.E.
Wm. H. Baker, self, male, white, 23, married, b DC, father b ME, mother b
MD, Clerk In Store
Rosana, wife, female, white, 20, married, b MD, father b MD, mother b MD,
Keeping House
Clarance, other, male, white, 10/12, single, b MD, father b DC, mother b MD
114/119
905 E Street, S.E.
George Wood, head, male, white, 21, married, b DC, father b Md, mother b Md,
Clerk In Store
S., wife, female, white, 20, married, b Md, father b Md, mother b Md,
Keeping House
William, son, male, white, 2, single, b DC, father b Md, mother b Md
Laura, daughter, female, white, 5 months, single, b DC, father b Md, mother
b Md

So I have searched the 1870 Census in D.C. and Maryland looking for a family
with Susannah and William as children. Again, no luck.

But what I did find was this:
1870 6th Ward, Washington, D.C.
954/973
Lucresia Cook, 45, f, w, house keeper, 3500, 300, b WDC
Susan Jenkins, 12, f, w, at school, b Md
Elizabeth, 9, f, w, at school, b WDC
which happens to be the same ward that George Wood and his father were
living in in 1870 (sigh).

Is this Susan the Susannah Jenkins, wife of George Wood? Who were this Susan
Jenkins parents?

I do find a Susan Jenkins, age 3, in the family of George H. Jenkins and Ann
Maria (Lisby) Jenkins in the 1860 Census for Prince Georges County,
Maryland. Neither George nor Ann Maria are listed anywhere in the 1870
Census. What happened to them? Did they die and the children sent to live
with others? There is no William H. in this Jenkins family (thinking Baker
is perhaps an adopted name).

Any help with this family?

Cheers and Thanks, Michael
