How do you mean "Rode with Frank"?
It is my understanding that Frank James did not continur his outlaw ways
after Jesse's death. There was,of course, contact with others, after
his trial, as he went on a lecture tour.

Perhaps your John rode with him in the Civil War.
There was a John McClure who was killed in Missouri, in the Civil War.
He was killed at his home several miles from Camden Point Missouri on
July 13, 1864 by Union troops who were in pursuit of Confederates after
a battle of Camden Point. McClure was called to his door and shot. He
had been born in Versailles Kentucky in 1815. ???????????
