EMMA WARD JOHNSON born Aug.31,1891 near Clinton,Ky., she was the
daughter of Robert Lee and Emma Sullivan Johnson,R.L.Johnson born 1863,
son of Archibald Mason Johnson 1809-1889 and Nancy Ann Ward
1836-1897,and grandson of Abel Johnson 1760-1830 and Curtis Frazier
1780-1855. In the late 1800's,R.L. Johnson was operating a livery
stable and later was in the furniture and undertaking business,he owned
the first motion picture theater and for many years served on the board
of trustees for the Methodist Church and Marvin College.He was president
of the towns first water and light company which went into business in
1898. Whem Emma was two months old her mother
passed away from Typhoid Fever,Later her father married his step
neice,Sallie Watson,who died in 1904.In 1906 R.L. Johnson married for
third time to Marion Perry, a music and education teacher at Marvin
College,who later taught private lessons tto many local students.After
R.L. Johnson's death in 1943,Emma and Marion Johnson continued to make
their home together.Mrs. Johnson served as District Govenor of the
Kentucky Federation of Women's Club,she died in 1952, At
the age of four,Emma became totally deaf after suffering an accidental
blow to the head,from a pump handle when water was being drawn from a
well. She graduated from Marvin College in 1911 and
attended Southern Seminary,Buena Vista,VA. Emma,a Methodist and long
time member of the Clinton Woman's Club,was also employed at Jewell
Brothers Grocery and at the Clinton-Hickman County Hospital.She retired
in 1974 and lived alone till 1982. out of Hickman Co.,Ky. History

Johnson m.John Leslie Summerville, 6 children, my father Harmon Bertrey
Summerville m. Dorothea Louise Vaughan, and had 3 of us, one deceased.
