The following Johnsons and Johnstons appear in "Early Church Records of
Rockingham County Virginia" by F. Edward Wright, 1998. Most of the listings
are quoted from records of Rev. John Alderson of Smith's Creek/Linville Creek
Baptist Church. The one exception, marked with an asterisk (*), is a county
clerk record taken from John W. Wayland's "Virginia Valley Records." I have
quoted Wright's book exactly here, except that I have capitalized the names
of Johnsons/Johnstons. There are 14 listings. Of those 8 are men, but 3 say
simply "Brother" or "Br." Johnston. Given names included are Benjamin,
James, Robert, and William. You never know - there might be something of
value here.
