Do you have a mother for Fanny? If so, you might be able to find the
parents and other children indexed in the IGI.
I've never searched military records, but I would believe that might be a
good avenue to find more information on her father. You know two things,
that he was deceased by the time of her marriage and what basic regiment he
served with as well as his rank. You also know he died sometime between the
time of her birth & marriage, so you may find him listed in the civil
indexes, unless he died abroad, for which I'm not sure how those deaths are
registered.
You might try looking for the Scots at War project, which I can't seem to
access at the moment.
Good luck,
Joy

JOHNSTON. Family resources say that she was born in Scotland in 1866. She
was married at St Mary's Church, Staines, Middx 26/12/1893, to James
Prescott ROBERTS. On her marriage certificate her Fathers Name was given as
James JOHNSTON (Deceased) late Sergeant of the Scots Fusiliers. Not much to
go on, but hoping someone can help.
