Hi listers,
I am new and just went into the archives to see what's been going on. Not much.
Anyway, here is my Juhl connection. There is a family story that my Danish Grandfather had been married in Denmark before emigrating to the US. Grandpa Jake gave misinformation on a lot of documents we have found for him and also changed his name from Sørensen to Johnson at some point before he married Grandma Lizzie in Mount Olive, Macoupin, IL in 1892. I have researched the parishes where his parents were from and have found close to 100 direct ancestors. I also found his marriage to a Mette Kirstine Juhl. She is listed as divorced in the 1890 census for Sønder Stenderup parish in Vejle county, DK. So, although Grandma Lizzie thought, even in her older years, that she was not legally married to Grandpa Jake because he was not divorced from his Danish wife, he was divorced even if he didn't know it. Jake and Lizzie had 13 kids.
My quest here is to discover whether Grandpa Jake, Jacob Christian Petersen Sørensen (b. 1862 in Kolding, Vejle, DK), and Mette Kirstine Juhl (b. 1863 in S. Bjert, Vejle, DK) had any children. Mette Kirstine's parents were Svend Andersen Juhl and Kirstine Davidsen.
Anything sound familiar?
