Subject: [KANSAS] Why Obits are important
Date: Mon, 9 Jul 2001 16:17:36 EDT

Hi, I am a Host on America Online Genealogy Forum. I work the Midwest States
chat, a Beginners chat and I have a morning chat called MUGS & HUGS in
Ancestral Digs room from 9 to 10 am. I also have two newsletters I send out
every day. One is HUGS HOME COMPANION that I send out in the morning with
recipes, stories jokes etc.
In the Afternoon, I send out MUGS GENEALOGY HOME COMPANION To over 500
subscribers. The first page is general information. The second page is obits
whether recent or way back which is appreciated by all who subscribe because
these folks live all over the country and it is not easy for these folks to
get back to the places their ancestors live and have found cousins through
the obits. The third page is Rootsweb Review and the fourth one is Rootsweb
Missing links. I am not advertising my newsletters, I just want you to know
how much people appreciate getting the obits to locate their ancestors or
their siblings and collateral relatives.
Almost 9/10 of my subscribers are folks that are in their 60s, 70s and 80s or
older who cannot travel to get this information.
Please encourage your younger relatives to start searching and talking and
listening to their parents and grandparents stories. My three sons had the
opportunity of listening to my fathers stories around the holiday dinner
table to the point they have some of them memorized. After Dad passed on the
boys take turns sitting at head of table to start telling their stories.
Please start that tradition in your families.
HOST GFS
