Doing newspaper research is more reasonably done if you know the exact
date of death. I don't. And, I don't have the time to read every
possible newspaper for an entire year for a POSSIBLE obituary, as I
don't know if one was printed. I'm sure the library does carry these,
and I could do interlibrary loan. It comes down to what is reasonable
for time. If I can get the exact date of death, I will then order
newspaper reels that I think a possible obit. would be printed in , and
search for said obit. So far, all information that has come from this
mans family has been iffy, at best, and generally wrong in fact. (This
is a collateral line for me.)
For those who wrote to tell me I needed to find out where he was buried.
Well, he was not buried in the family plot in Missouri, as that is what
his family said they think happened. That cemetery has been
transcribed, and he is not listed. (I know, if no headstone etc......
they went by burial cards.)
I think I'll just wander off and work on something that seems doable.
Kansas does not seem to be very "genealogy friendly" when it comes to
records. (People are wonderful!)
One last question: what is the period of time one must wait to get
access to death records? In Oregon, we have a 50 year lock out for
non-family. After that, you can get the death certificate from the
State Archives. What is Kansas' policy?
Thanks for your help and suggestions.
