Subject: [KANSAS] Catholic Girls School - Wichita

I am researching the family of William Harrison and Sarah E. (Brenner) Dunn who where married in IN, moved to Cowley Co., KS about 1872, then moved into the OK TY circa 1889. Many stories have been written about the Dunn Children (there were nine that survived to adulthood).

Of one of the daughters it has been written several times that while the Dunns lived in Cowley County, KS they sent Rose to a Catholic Girls School for a couple of years to "receive some refinement and become a young woman". However, none of the stories provide any evidence that this happened.

Rose was born 9-5-1878 in Cowley Co., KS. The family moved to the OK TY in 1889. It is quite clear that if she went to the school it would have been before the family arrived in OK TY. The father died in 1890.

My Question is this: Is there anyone on this list who might be able to give me a clue as to what age a young girl would have been sent off to school in that period of history in Kansas? Was there a Catholic Girls School in Wichita between 1875 and 1889? If so, where would records of persons who attended the school be maintained.

I'm flying in the dark on this so any suggestions would be appreciated.
