Ah, yes! Here we have CONTROVERSY!

Some researchers have provided info from which I deduce that this Mary
Kindall could be part of the Thomas Kendall/Mary Lucie family. The
Immigrant, Thomas Kendall b.1610 England d.1646 St.Mary's Co, MD m.1635 Kent
Island MD Mary Lucy/Marie Lucie. According to some this couple left 3
children: Thomas Kendall b.1638 m. Martha Abigail Gough/Goff; Charles
Kendall b.1642; William Kendall--according to others Thomas Kendall/Mary
Lucy did not leave children/heirs. There is no research I've seen to note
exactly who this Mary Kindall is. Could she be Mrs. Thomas Kendall/Mary
Lucie? The research I've seen does not mention her when it mentions Thomas
Kendall's will. Or perhaps she is a daughter of Thomas Kendall/Mary Lucie
either not mentioned in the will or could have been born after Thomas died.
Its also possible she is of a completely different Kindall/Kendall family;
but it would have to a very great coincidence for her to be brought into the
Brent Family at the same time as Charles Kendall & William Kendall as noted
by the researchers below.

I don't know the answer but here is what the researchers I have info from
have to say about it:

First, here are source notes re: Mary Lucie: "Hazel Kendall notes on pg 26:
"In Hotten--License to go beyond the seas, pp.127-167: `These underwritten
names are to be transported to Virginia imbarqued in the "Thomas", Hanry
Taverner (sailed 21 August 1635) master of ship, having been examined by the
Minister of Gravesend, touchilng their comformitie in our religion: MARY
LUCIE, age 20; Hugh Fouche, 17;' among others." On pg 27, Hazel describes
information on this family: "In 1290, King Edward (1272-1307) the First
ordered allJews to leave the country; they having been brought from France
by William the Conqueror, 1066. The order included the Jews in London who
lived in a favorable area. Shortly afterward the Gentiles moved into the
vacated Jewry (Jury) section. At this time and for three hukndred more years
the KENDALL'S lived up in Cumberland's southeast border of adjacent
Westmoreland near Penrith. Just aftger 1500, into the Jury district moved
membrs of the Luci or Lucy family whose descendant married THOMAS KENDALL
onKent Island in the fall of 1635. Their neighbors also came across to
Virginia later generation: John Lightfoot, John Withers--sons Edmond and
Dunston, William Goffe (Gough), Edward Lightfoot--sons Wm, Edward, Timothy;
Anthony Withers--sons Robert, John; John Fletcher buried 1545, Richard
Backster died suddenly 1592, Thomas Atwood, Thomas Conoway, Thomas Edmonson,
John Pead, the Wallers, Rawlins, Eliotts, Medcalfes, Trowtes, Butler,
Garrade, Joyuner, Taylor. Family of Lucy, Lucie, etc originated near Rouen,
France southeast of Domfmront Castle in the bailwick of Le Passen's and rose
to power with the power of King Henry I. De Luci, a Norman Knight,
accompanied Wm the Conqueror into England 1066. His ancestor was Thornton de
Charlecore."

Second, here is a source note re: William Kendall son of Thomas Kendall/Mary
Lucie: "Hazel Kendall notes: "William--unmarried, fined 1676 10 pounds
sterling for fighting war vs. Gov. Berkeley; lived with John Coombes or John
Willis who m.Sarah {Mary m. ____ Collins}." Also, Hazel Kendall notes this
about Charles Kendall son of Thomas Kendall/ Marie Lucie: "Charles lived
with bro. Thomas".

Third, here is a source note for Mary Lucie (taken from Ed Crump's World
Connect data): "There are several references in the early Virginia land
transactions involving the Lucys/Lucies. For example, on April 20, 1687,
there is a patent to George Page for 600 acres in Westover Parish that is
identified as being bounded by (on one side) by "Capt. Lucies line". In
another, on June 15, 1676, Robert Netherland was granted 490 acres for land
bounded "on the Blackwater at the E. end of Robt. Lucy his land", and
finally, on Sept. 20, 1683, Thomas Anderson was granted 400 acres in the
Parish of Westopher on on the S. side of Ja: Riv. Bounded: on the line of
Capt. Robert Lucy..." Considering the dates, this Robert Lucy is likely the
son, or grandson, of one of the brothers of Mary Lucy who married the
immigrant, Thomas Kendall."

Fourth, here are source notes re: Thomas Kendall b.1610 England:
"--See web page "McKinley's One & All" which displays this family line at:
--According to Historical Southern Families, JB Boddie, Vol II: Thomas
Kendall came to Kent Island VA in 1631, moved to St. Marys in 1636, died abt
1646 and left a will dated 9 Nov 1646. "He gave personalty to the son of
Roger Baxter of Kent Island and leaves a trust fund for his three children,
not named, under the guardianship of Thomas Youell with John Sturman as a
witness (Md Mag 28-181, 262) (Archives and Court Records). In 1652 Thomas
Youell received a grant in Northumberland and is mentioned as deceased in
that county in 1655. No doubt but that he brought the Kendall orphans with
him same as the Butler orphans were brought by John Hallowes in 1650. Thomas
Kendall with Thomas Goffe and John Willis bought 405 acres of land March 7,
1687/8 in Rappa Co which afterward fell in King George Co." (I am guessing
this Thomas Kendall, RIN 1004, is the orphan son of Thomas Kendall, RIN
1015.)
--Hazel Kendall notes on pg 24: "Captain Wm. Claiborne brought from England
1631 in ship "Africa" to Kent Island in upper Chesapeake Bay, Thomas
Kendall, 1610-1646, probably married late fall 1635 on Kent Island, Maryland
by Rev. Richard Jeames to Mary Lucy (Lucie) 1615 England. The Lucy's also
lived in the Jury (Jewry), London. Lucy's from a district in Neufchatel,
Normandy; from medieval Latin Luciacus or Luciacam, `the estates of
Lucius'." On pg 16, Hazel notes further: "On the ship `Africa', on May 28,
1631, William Claiborne of Kent Island set sail from Deal eight miles
northeast of Dover on the coast and south of London, England. Deal is the
reputed land place of Caesar 55 B.C. Claiborne had a cargo of goods and
twenty men `servants' who paid for their passage by short terms of service,
sometimes three years, but usually five years, few of them being younger
sons of good families. Of them were required allegiance to the King,
fidelity to Proprietary, and obedience to the law. The `Africa' sailing
vessel arrived two months later at Kecoughtan, Virginia. Clayborne had only
a trader's license on which to base his claims to Kent Island. His London
partners were Wm Cloberry, John Dela.Barre, David Morehead. Kent Island was
reached July 1631. Thomas Kendall...imployed in the kitchin to dressd
victualls, bread corn, and other worke in the howse. Thomas Kendall d.1646
St.Mary's Co., Md." And on pg 17: "Thomas Kendall left in the late summer or
early fall 1635; his name no longer appears; he evidently became of age at
21; probably was born 1614. He must have married in the fall 1635 Mary Lucie
born 1615 by the Minister Richard Jeames (James) in the trading post on Kent
Island. Having been recruited by Capt. Wm Claiborne up in northern England
and known by the family as a younger son and was given inside work on the
post, Thomas Kendall profited enough by this close relationship to leave a
will made Nov.9, 1646 leaving `to eldest son of Roger Baxter of Kent Island
my personalty, Thomas Youell in trust for my three children' (Maryland Will
Bk)." Hazel also notes pg 17: "Sept 1, 1653 Col. Wm Clayborne, Secretary of
State now, brought those who had been at one time on the Isle of Kent to a
5,000-acre tract in Virginia in Bald Eagle's neck: THOMAS KENDALL, William
Cooke, John Butler (a mariner or trader; brother Thomas), Roger Backster,
Thomas Youall, Originall Browne, John Morgan, John Ashew (Askew), Thomas
White." On pg 18: "Early as 1644 a band of white men were living among the
Chicacoan Tribe of indians on Coan River in present Northumberland across
the Potomac River from Saint Mary's--all were protestants and former
residents of Kent Island. Among these evidently was THOMAS KENDALL with
friends. ...Col.Giles BRENT (a Catholic) crossed the Potomac River to settle
at the conflex of Aquia Creek with the Potomac R called BRENT's Point; he a
first citizen of Stafford County, Virginia and called his new home `Peace'.
His two unmarried sisters, Mary 1601-1658 and Margaret 1601-1671, first
women suffragists in America. Margaret lived around where Alexandria and
Fredericksburg now are. Mary brought MARY, CHARLES, AND WILLIAM KENDALL with
her 1653 on Aquia Creek on Austin Run in Stafford County, Virginia."
However, on pg 21 Hazel notes that the person who brought Mary, Charles and
William Kendall in 1653 was "Indian Mary BRENT", an Indian Princess,
daughter of the Chief of the Piscataway Tribe, named Kitomaqund called Mary
who married Col.Giles BRENT.

--Nancy Culver <> noted in 6 Dec 97, "Thomas Kendall I
b.1610 in Germany." She descends thru Walter T Kendall b.1834/Martha Dillard
had dau Leonora Kendall b.19 Dec 1860 d. 29 Jan 1931 m. James Harvey Hull.

--NOTE: Denise Mortorff <> {Mar 2002 address
@rootsweb= <> }and author of: "The Kendall Family
History--The Life, Ancestors & Descendants of Abraham Kendall & Millie Ellen
Gilmore", 1989, 388 pages (contact Denise for copies), disagrees that this
Thomas Kendall left any children and so would not be the immigrant ancestor
of this Kendall line. She believes the next Thomas Kendall who married
Martha Abigail Goff or Gough is the immigrant ancestor.

--Lori Howard <> 7 Apr 99 msg: will from film#1037092
transcribed by Claude Kendall: "THOMAS KENDALL - 1646 of Dorchester Co MD.
Nov 9th, 1946. Liber - 1 Vol 33-34. Hall of Records, Annapolis MD. "Named in
will: Thomas Youeles (Youelles) three children. Left to Roger Baxter's
eldest son the property of Isle of Kent."

--Helen Turner <> is a descendant.

There are other researchers of this family line at World Connect.

Does anyone have further info on this? Any records, for example?

Scott, in the same reference book you noted there are several others. Page
193: John Kindall, & Mary; Page 191: William Kindal, & Kendall's: Wm, Cha.,
Tho., 2 John's, Wm, Robt. Its pretty difficult of pin these down without
further info. These people were brought in as servants or whatever to
establish "head rights" for the sponsors who paid their ship passage. The
head rights entitled the sponsors to claim land in the new country. This
entry on page 191 of the book is probably Thomas Kendall b.1610 (because of
the Claiborne connection): "Kendall, Tho., 1653, by Colo. Wm Clayborne (Sec.
State), _____ Co." The discrepancy in dates may be that 1653 is when Wm
Clayborne exercised his head right to obtain the land (my guesstimate
anyway).
