A project sponsored by the Guiness family researching Irish Y-DNA recently
published its initial findings in a paper accompanied by raw data for some
1126 Irish males, including 68 Kennedys. They identified a cluster within
R1b centred in the North West of Ireland which appears to correspond to what
David Wilson on the GENEALOGY-DNA list recently described as the '25-11-14'
group, which has also come to be know as the 'Irish' group.

Of the Kennedys studied, the haplogroup breakdown is as follows:

R1b3 - 64
IxI1b2 - 3
Unknown- 1

Within the 64 R1b3s, 6 roughly correspond to the '25-11-14' group which is
also strongly evident in the Kennedy project at FamilyTreeDNA. 3 of them are
from the Connacht region in the west of the country.

Unfortunately the markers used are not high enough in number nor do they
match up enough with the commercially used markers to draw any more precise
conclusions about recent links.
